Mix & Match: A Guide to Styling Your Charms

In this editorial, I'd like to share some insights into the art of mix and match jewelry and how to style it beautifully.

First, it's important to note that charm systems can vary between brands. Within my collections, I carefully ensure that all sizes and diameters are perfectly coordinated – every piece is designed to work harmoniously together. However, if you own mix and match pieces from other brands, please be aware: there's no universal standard for the size of charm loops and hoops. This means that pieces from different makers may not always be compatible with one another.

In the following, I'll show you how to style the charms from my shop using the Toja Earrings as an example, so you can create your perfect look with confidence.

To combine a charm with an ear stud, the stud needs a special attachment designed for this purpose. This is usually located on the back or underside of the earring. In the case of the Toja earrings, it's an additional curved hook that holds the charm securely in place.

Simply choose a charm from your collection that features a small loop for attachment. The inner diameter of this loop should be just large enough for the hook to pass through. If you want to be even more certain, you can gently press down on the hook after threading the charm. Sterling silver and other materials are very malleable - but don't overdo it, otherwise the solder joint could break at some point. Charms with larger loops are exclusively designed for hoops or as pendant necklace charms, and are typically clearly defined as such in the product description.

When it comes to styling your charms, feel free to let your creativity run wild. You can mix silver with gold elements – in fact, this is one of the hottest trends this season! Combine polished pieces with matte finishes, or add textured elements to bring dynamic contrast to your look.

Of course, you can also rely on tried-and-true styling principles:

Complementary colours: Pair turquoise charms with coral or amber tones for a vibrant, eye-catching combination that makes each colour pop.

Warm tones: Create a sun-kissed look by combining gold earrings with charms in amber, terracotta, or warm honey hues for a cohesive, glowing aesthetic.

Cool tones: Opt for silver studs paired with charms in deep blue, emerald green, or amethyst for an elegant, sophisticated palette.

Rule of thirds: When styling multiple charms, try using three elements in varying sizes or colours – for example, one statement piece, one medium accent, and one delicate detail – to create visual balance and interest.

In the end, mix and match jewelry is all about expressing your individuality and creating looks that are uniquely yours. Whether you're drawn to bold contrasts or harmonious combinations, the beauty lies in experimenting and discovering what makes you feel confident. I hope this guide has inspired you to play with your charms and create stunning ear stacks that tell your personal story. Happy styling, lovelies!
